Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Outdoor Text, an automated SMS service operated by LinkTaps LLC ("we", "us"). By texting (855) 886-4321 you agree to them.

1. The service

Outdoor Text answers text messages with weather conditions, forecasts, National Weather Service alerts, National Park Service alerts, and short answers to general questions found by web search. Replies are generated automatically. Weather and alert replies are built from public data sources without editing. Answers to general questions are written by an AI model and may be incomplete or wrong.

2. Not for emergencies

Outdoor Text is for planning and information only. It is not an emergency, rescue or safety service. Satellite and cellular messages can be delayed, lost or delivered out of order, and data sources can be unavailable or inaccurate. Do not rely on Outdoor Text to decide whether conditions are safe. In an emergency, use your phone's emergency SOS feature or call 911.

3. Consent and messages

You opt in by sending us a text message. We reply only to the number that texted us and only to the messages you send, plus one welcome message after your first text. We do not send marketing. Message frequency depends on how often you text us. Msg & data rates may apply; your carrier's satellite messaging terms also apply. Reply STOP to end, HELP for help. After STOP we send no further messages unless you text START. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, and the authorized user of the phone number you text from.

5. Free replies, prices and payment

Each phone number receives 20 free weather, forecast or question replies. After that, those replies are paid from a prepaid balance at the prices shown on our home page (currently 5¢ for weather, 5¢ for a forecast and 25¢ for a question). Weather alerts, park alerts and help replies are always free. A reply is charged only after it is sent; if we cannot answer, you are not charged. When your free replies are used and your balance is too low, we send a notice with a link to add funds, at most once a day.

Balances are added through a link we text you, after a one-time code confirms you control the number. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your full card number. Balances do not expire, are not transferable, and have no cash value. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable. We may change prices with notice on our website; a change applies only to replies sent after it takes effect.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use Outdoor Text to break the law, to send abusive or automated traffic, to probe or disrupt the service, or to obtain answers that would harm others. We limit how many messages a number can send per hour (currently 10 questions per hour) and may stop answering a number that abuses the service.

7. Third-party data

Weather data comes from the National Weather Service and Open-Meteo, park alerts from the National Park Service, place lookups from Google, and question answers from an AI model with web search. We do not control these sources and are not responsible for their accuracy or availability.

8. Disclaimer

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that any reply will be delivered, timely, accurate or complete.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, LinkTaps LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any injury, loss or damage arising from reliance on a reply, a delayed or missing reply, or outdoor activity. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

10. Changes and termination

We may change these terms or the service, or stop offering it. We will post changes on this page with a new effective date; continuing to text the number after a change means you accept it. If we discontinue the service, we will refund any unused prepaid balance on request.
